Daytona Beach Shores was first organized in 1960 by local business leaders convinced that a smaller community could provide better services to its residents.&nbsp;The city was incorporated on April 22, 1960.In the 1970s and the 1980s, the city saw a massive building program. Now about 80 percent of the residents live in high-rise&nbsp;condominiums&nbsp;that stretch along the&nbsp;Atlantic Ocean.A resort and retirement community built on tourism and the service industry, Daytona Beach Shores has no manufacturing industry, but caters to tourists year-round with&nbsp;miniature golf&nbsp;courses and other types of family entertainment.

Daytona Beach is a city on Florida’s Atlantic coast. It’s known for Daytona International Speedway, which hosts February’s iconic Daytona 500 NASCAR race. The beach has hard-packed sand where driving is permitted in designated areas. Near the boardwalk’s rides and arcades, Daytona Beach Bandshell stages free summer concerts. Steps from the beach, Daytona Lagoon water park offers go-karts, laser tag and waterslides.

Ponce Inlet&nbsp;is a town in&nbsp;Volusia County,&nbsp;Florida, United States. The population was 3,032 at the 2010 census.The town of Ponce Inlet is located on the southern tip of a barrier island, south of&nbsp;Daytona Beach&nbsp;and&nbsp;Daytona Beach Shores.Several marinas are located in Ponce Inlet. The community is known for its strict land use regulations.Visited by over 80,000 people each year, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station was designated a&nbsp;National Historic Landmark&nbsp;in 1998. The lighthouse tower and museum are located 12 miles (19&nbsp;km) south of Daytona Beach and are open to the public year-round. The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Florida and the second tallest lighthouse in the nation. Visitors who climb the 175-foot-tall (53&nbsp;m) lighthouse tower are treated to a view of the Florida coastline and&nbsp;Halifax River&nbsp;from Daytona Beach to&nbsp;New Smyrna Beach.

Ponce Inlet

Port Orange&nbsp;is a city in&nbsp;Volusia County,&nbsp;Florida. The city's population was estimated at 64,842 in 2019 by the U.S. Census Bureau.The city is part of the&nbsp;Deltona–Daytona Beach–Ormond Beach metropolitan area; the metropolitan area's population in 2010 was 590,289. Port Orange is a principal city in the&nbsp;Fun Coast&nbsp;region of the state of Florida.Port Orange was settled by&nbsp;John Milton Hawks, who brought freed blacks to work at his sawmill after the&nbsp;U.S. Civil War.&nbsp;Esther Hawks&nbsp;established an integrated school in the area. The colony struggled soon after its creation and most colonists left. The area that became known as&nbsp;Freemanville&nbsp;is a legacy of the settlers who stayed in the area.

Port Orange

South Daytona was once a town called&nbsp;Blake&nbsp;(named after wealthy&nbsp;Boston&nbsp;businessman Alpheus P. Blake), with some forty resident families and as many more non-resident property holders. Many of the early settlers profitably engaged in orange culture and vegetable gardening. According to the&nbsp;National Archives&nbsp;in&nbsp;Washington, D.C., Blake opened its first post office on August 19, 1878.&nbsp;Circa&nbsp;1886, the first train came as far as Daytona, and ten years later the line was extended to&nbsp;Miami. Soon thereafter, a railroad station was built at Big Tree Crossing.By 1926, the towns of Daytona,&nbsp;Daytona Beach&nbsp;and&nbsp;Seabreeze&nbsp;were consolidated to create the city of Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach then proceeded to annex all the adjacent territories, including the town of Blake. Because of new taxes and appraisals levied, residents of Blake were forced to hire an attorney and eventually,&nbsp;circa&nbsp;1938, succeeded in breaking away from Daytona Beach to become the incorporated town of South Daytona.Soon after&nbsp;World War II, the town created a Building Department, followed by a Planning and Zoning Board. Builders and developers soon became interested in the area, and South Daytona started to develop. South Daytona was then in a position to request financial assistance from the federal government for expansion of utilities, streets, etc. South Daytona was the second town in the Halifax area, after Daytona Beach, to install a sanitary sewer system. The town continued to prosper and was incorporated as the City of South Daytona in 1951. South Daytona has operated under a City Manager/Council form of government since 1980, with the Mayor and four council members serving four-year, staggered terms beginning in 1990.
